Prevent Glaze Setting

To prevent glazes from setting rock hard in the bucket, add a small amount (as little as 1 tsp to 10 litres of glaze) of dissolved Epsom Salts (Magnesium Sulfate). Depending on the glaze composition, it should hardly settle at all: if it does, it is easily stirred again.

Ashes to Ash Glazes

An excellent source of fine ash: The local charcoal chicken outlet will, if provided with a bucket sweep out the charcoal bed of ashes for you at the end of the day. The ashes from this are almost ready for immediate use with just a light sieving. For those more fussy the ashes can be sieved then washed to produce a consistent substance.
