Jill Symes

Jill Symes was born and educated in Melbourne. Working as a studio potter, she has been exhibiting in solo and group shows since 1982. Her works are in public and private collections around Australia and overseas.

"My work has consistently related to landscape, the sea, the sky, with references to the human connection. Employing handbuilding techniques of slab, coil, pinch and layer to produce forms and surfaces which are reminiscent of our primitive and organic origins.

Form is an essential concern, together with the desire to maintain the characteristics of materials claimed from the earth and the handmaking processes.
