Newly emerged ceramic sculpture artist, Iesha Stewart (pronounced i-ee-sha), had an enviable childhood living aboard her parent’s yacht cruising the Queensland coastline. In her early teens she pursued a maritime career working on various sea vessels including prawn trawlers, charter vessels and commercial barges. In the early 1990’s she left the sea and although now not working fulltime on boats, she remains actively involved with marine related projects.
In between full-time employment working within fisheries research, Iesha is also an art student at James Cook University and is due to finish her undergraduate certificate course in Visual Arts Fundamentals in mid 2005. Her interest in ceramics was at first as a hobby back in 1998 but as her skills developed and collection of works grew, it seemed logical to take the next step and share her works with the public. Iesha has been professionally selling her works since last year and has already received immense support and work opportunities through private commissioned projects and local sales in north Queensland.
Iesha’s fascination in marine environments is reflected in her colourful quirky works; highlighting her love for the sea, its occupants, and how so very privileged we are to have such wondrous coastal lifestyles here in Australia.
