My work draw’s it’s inspiration from traditional English studio pottery. The pots are usually in the form of a vessel, with the majority of the work being thrown on the wheel, with as little turning as necessary, some of the pieces being altered whilst the clay is still soft.
I try to capture the qualities of directness and energy and to bring out the relationship between the maker and his materials. I use a combination of different glazes, Tenmoku, celadon and copper red. The range of work includes bowls, dishes, jugs, tea bowls and vases. All of the work is fired in a LPG kiln under a reduction atmosphere to cone 9 (1280° C).
