Brian Keyte

I work in vitrified porcelain and stoneware with an emphasis on a marriage of form and glaze, each to enhance or amplify the visual effect of the other. Though all work is for the sake of art, nearly all are based on practical useable forms. Pieces are made with the idea of not only form and glaze working together to excite and please the visual sense but also to bring in to play the senses of touch and hearing. I would like the viewer to hold the work, cup it in their hands, hear the clear, bell like ring of vitrified clay and glass and let their eyes follow both form and colour movement in harmony.

I have mastered all the traditional glazes, temoku, teadust, hares fur, celadons etc but my favourite would still be the copper red. I currently use 8 different variations.

Gallery works and commissions range from sake cups, through table centrepieces to large planters and floor pots using up to 75kg of clay.
