Barbara Swarbrick

"Her beautiful, decorative figurative artwork captures the viewers attention. She applies intensely rich colours and vigourous lines to make bold, bright decorative forms. She devises new, exciting ideas in her composition, which clearly emphasises an expressive inner quality and a direct and powerful treatment of colur" (Aurora De Leucio 2002)

My pieces are handbuilt from coils or slabs of clay, cut into shapes and joined together to form surfaces on which I can enjoy drawing and painting a personal mythology inspired by dance, music, plants, birds, animals, early 20th Century art and design, travel and whatever is happening in my life at the time. Pieces often have modelled additions and the surface decoration, both inside and outside, verges on the obsessive. It is good to make people smile!

I have been making and exhibiting for over 25 years and works are represented in many public and private, collections both nationally and internationally, and in many publications on ceramics.
